Farm Assistant
About Hollycombe Home Farm: Hollycombe Home Farm is a diversified, regenerative family farm set in West Sussex. We combine livestock, hay meadows, woodland, events, and hospitality, farming with a strong agroecological ethos focused on soil health, biodiversity, animal welfare, and community connection.
Alongside farming, we host feasts, events, and welcome visitors who want to reconnect with land, food, and nature. We are forward-thinking, open-minded, and always learning.
The Role: We are looking for a practical, motivated Farm Assistant to support our livestock and land operations and become a valued part of our small, committed team.
This is a practical, outdoor role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with animals, land, and people, and is excited by regenerative agriculture. There is real scope for the right person to bring ideas, develop projects, and grow with the farm.
The role is a minimum of 3 days per week, with the potential to increase hours seasonally or longer-term.
Key Responsibilities:
Livestock & Grazing
Assisting with animal husbandry for our flock of sheep and small herd of suckler cows.
Implementing and executing our regenerative grazing plan, including 2-day moves and electric fencing setup and takedown.
Supporting livestock health, welfare checks, and routine handling.
Land & Infrastructure
Repairing and replacing permanent fencing.
Tree and hedge planting, and hedge laying.
General farm maintenance including track repairs and clearing fallen trees.
Log processing and charcoal production.
Machinery & Operations
Basic tractor driving including topping, hay cutting and tedding, and muck carting.
Delivering small hay bales to local equine customers.
People & Community
Friendly, professional interaction with hay customers and, occasionally, meat box customers or visitors.
Representing the farm positively to the wider community.
Tickets & Experience
The following are desirable but not essential — we are happy to train the right person and support ticketing:
Quad bike
Chainsaw
Tractor
Telehandler
What We Offer:
A supportive, open, and learning-focused working environment.
Hands-on experience with regenerative livestock systems.
Opportunity to bring your own ideas and projects to the farm.
Training and support to gain relevant tickets.
Flexible, part-time work with potential to grow.
The chance to be part of a farm that values people, land, and long-term thinking.
Who We’re Looking For:
We are less interested in a “perfect CV” and more interested in the right mindset and approach to work. Whether you already work in agriculture or are considering a career change, this role would suit someone who:
Has some practical farm experience and ideally has worked across more than one farming system.
Is looking to commit to a role and location rather than short-term seasonal work.
Is reliable, proactive, and takes pride in doing a job well.
Has a practical, problem-solving approach and a willingness to learn new skills.
Is comfortable working outdoors in all weather and enjoys physical tasks.
Can interact confidently and professionally with customers, visitors, and the wider community.
Brings curiosity and initiative, and enjoys contributing ideas and improving how things are done.
Is motivated by working with nature and is interested in regenerative, agroecological approaches to farming.
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Please email us with a short introduction and your relevant experience.
Applications close 28th February 2026.
